Hello! I’m Katy, an experienced and approachable tutor passionate about helping students build confidence, reach their academic potential and feel genuinely prepared for their exams. For the past five years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with students across a wide range of subjects, with a particular focus on GCSE, iGCSE and A Level preparation. With a degree in Politics & Modern History from the University of Manchester, I’ve worked with students of all abilities and enjoy helping them not only improve their grades, but also become more confident and independent learners. My approach to tutoring is calm, encouraging and interactive. I believe that every student learns differently, so I take the time to understand what works best for each individual and tailor my lessons accordingly. Whether a student needs help getting to grips with a difficult topic, improving their exam technique, or simply building the confidence to tackle an upcoming exam, I aim to make every lesson productive, engaging and enjoyable. I have extensive experience preparing students for a range of exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, WJEC, Eduqas and CIE. I understand that knowing the subject is only part of succeeding in an exam, so I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, understanding mark schemes and learning how to approach questions with confidence. I also specialise in language tuition. Having lived in both Spain and France, I am fluent in Spanish and French and have experience supporting students with all aspects of their language exams, including reading, writing, speaking and listening. I especially enjoy helping students develop their confidence when speaking and making languages feel more natural and enjoyable. Above all, I genuinely enjoy tutoring and getting to know the students I work with. Seeing a student go from feeling unsure about a subject to approaching it with confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. My aim is always to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and, ultimately, making real progress. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Modern History & Politics from the University of Manchester in 2021, where I specialised in Russian, Chinese and Modern African history, alongside advanced Spanish modules. Before university, I completed the International Baccalaureate, studying a broad range of subjects including History, Spanish, French, English Literature, Physics and Mathematics. I achieved 13 A*s at GCSE. I am also TEFL qualified and hold a C1 qualification in Spanish. Having lived in both Spain and France, I am fluent in Spanish and French and have worked professionally in both languages. This combination of academic experience, language qualifications and practical experience allows me to support students across a wide range of subjects and exam requirements.

Alongside my English Literature degree, I am a competitive middle-distance athlete and worked within the executive team, as VP of Sport, on my college committee at the University of York. I also enjoyed my role as a course ambassador, speaking to prospective students and parents at open days about studying English at Undergraduate level and university life in general. While at University, I began teaching English Literature and Language via zoom, primarily to GCSE students, with the hope of tutoring at A-Level too. My sessions are always based on the personal areas that each individual student wishes to focus on, to consolidate or enhance their understanding of the given topic. I am patient and understanding, so promise to support each student at their own pace and be not only a tutor, but also a reassuring support-system to whom they can direct any questions or queries. I hope to guide and support other students in their personal academic goals, through a focus on exam technique, revision methods and coping with the potential stress that may arise during exam season, to help get the best out of each individual. Hi! I'm Favour, I have experience tutoring students who are studying English language and Literature for their GCSE's. As a tutor I aim to breakdown questions & lessons to go along with the students' pace. During lessons I use the students interest to channel their learning & I am patient to ensure they get the most of the time. For example I once used a students' sports interest to breakdown the structure question in the AQA language paper 1 question 3. What I love the most about tutoring (apart from spreading knowledge of course) is getting to know, learn and see students develop. I love seeing wonderful personalities and interests come through, so I look forward to meeting you soon! Outside of tutoring, I am involved in marketing communications. In my spare time I like to watch movies, videos on dog grooming, skincare & perfumes, spend time with friends and bake (when I can). TEACHING SUBJECTS Lower level: English language & Literature in English Degree level: Mass Communication, Advertising & Marketing courses Languages: English (Level 5) & Yoruba (Level 2) Preferred Student Age Group: 9 years and above. My communication background links with the subject of English and as such my highest educational qualification as a tutor is a completed Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication (Second Class Upper) and a masters degree in Advertising & Marketing. Not only have I been given the opportunity to tutor a subject I love, I have also been given the opportunity to share my passion of English with students who want to achieve the best exam results they possibly can. English has always been a subject I have taken to naturally, achieving A* in Literature A-Level, and Level 8 and 9 at GCSE. However, I have struggled in other subjects where I found it difficult to comprehend the information taught to me. Because of this, I have patience and empathy in teaching areas you may not be 100% assured in and I am able to adapt teaching styles to ensure I deliver information effectively to give the best learning experience possible. I can plan lessons according to what you feel you need to work on, ranging from homework tasks, knowing course content or exam technique. My preferred exam board to tutor GCSE and A Level is AQA. I have experience in tutoring Edexcel English Language GCSE. Sometimes the hardest thing in exams is knowing the answers but struggling to put ideas on paper for fear of it being incorrect. I aim to inspire confidence in everyone I tutor to ensure exam questions can be tackled with assurance and not apprehension. I am not just a tutor, I am a supporter who is rooting for you all the way and I have seen the benefits of a little encouragement going a long way. I am currently a final year Law student studying at the University of Manchester. Lower Level: English GCSE: English Literature, Language A-Level: English Literature I am currently a Law student at the University of Manchester looking to maintain and share my passion of English to students who want to achieve the best grades they possibly can. My goal is to motivate students to want to learn and be enthusiastic about their studies. I therefore make it my mission to make lessons as engaging as possible with students feeling a sense of achievement once the lesson has ended in the work they have done and the ideas they have offered.
