Hi! My name is Aisha and I am a second-year medical student who really enjoys helping students feel more confident in their learning. I remember how stressful school and exams can feel, so I try to be the kind of tutor I would have wanted myself- patient, encouraging, and easy to talk to. I am calm, approachable, and always happy to explain things more than once if needed. I believe learning works best in a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My aim is not just to help with the subject content, but to build confidence, motivation, and good study habits along the way. Outside of studying medicine, I enjoy reading, learning languages, practising yoga, and spending time with friends. I am a second-year medical student with a strong academic background across both science and humanities subjects. Achieving top grades at GCSE level and progressing through A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, and English literature has given me a well-rounded understanding of different learning styles and exam techniques. Studying medicine has helped me to develop a structured and clear approach to learning, which I use to help students build strong foundations and confidence in their subjects. I focus on adapting explanations to suit each student and supporting them to understand concepts clearly rather than relying solely on memorisation. I'm a Mathematics and Data Science graduate of the London School of Economics, and I now run a startup that uses machine learning in drug discovery, so I put the maths I teach to work every day. I studied Maths, Physics, Computer Science and Chemistry at A-level, earning an A* in Maths, and I'm a two-time gold medallist in the National Physics Olympiad. I tutor Maths, Physics and Computer Science from GCSE through A-level, and I also prepare students for university admissions tests and Oxbridge applications. Having recently sat these exams myself, I know exactly where students get stuck. My approach is patient and diagnostic: I find the gap, rebuild from there, and focus on real understanding and problem-solving rather than memorising. Most of all, I love helping students go from dreading a subject to feeling confident and capable in it. I attended St Paul's School, where I took A-levels in Mathematics (A*), Physics (A), Computer Science (A) and Chemistry (A), along with an A* EPQ in electrical and systems engineering. At GCSE I earned seven grade 9s, including Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science, and four grade 8s. I then studied for a BSc in Mathematics and Data Science at the London School of Economics (LSE), with coursework spanning machine learning, optimisation, real and complex analysis, probability and statistics, graph theory and algorithms. Alongside my degree I completed Harvard's CS50 and an MIT course in mathematics for finance. My specialisations are Maths, Physics and Computer Science at GCSE and A-level, and preparing students for university admissions tests (STEP, TMUA and ESAT) and Oxbridge applications. I'm also a two-time gold medallist in the National Physics Olympiad, which is exactly the kind of problem-solving these entrance exams reward.

Hello! I’m Katy, an experienced and approachable tutor passionate about helping students build confidence, reach their academic potential and feel genuinely prepared for their exams. For the past five years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with students across a wide range of subjects, with a particular focus on GCSE, iGCSE and A Level preparation. With a degree in Politics & Modern History from the University of Manchester, I’ve worked with students of all abilities and enjoy helping them not only improve their grades, but also become more confident and independent learners. My approach to tutoring is calm, encouraging and interactive. I believe that every student learns differently, so I take the time to understand what works best for each individual and tailor my lessons accordingly. Whether a student needs help getting to grips with a difficult topic, improving their exam technique, or simply building the confidence to tackle an upcoming exam, I aim to make every lesson productive, engaging and enjoyable. I have extensive experience preparing students for a range of exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, WJEC, Eduqas and CIE. I understand that knowing the subject is only part of succeeding in an exam, so I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, understanding mark schemes and learning how to approach questions with confidence. I also specialise in language tuition. Having lived in both Spain and France, I am fluent in Spanish and French and have experience supporting students with all aspects of their language exams, including reading, writing, speaking and listening. I especially enjoy helping students develop their confidence when speaking and making languages feel more natural and enjoyable. Above all, I genuinely enjoy tutoring and getting to know the students I work with. Seeing a student go from feeling unsure about a subject to approaching it with confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. My aim is always to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and, ultimately, making real progress. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Modern History & Politics from the University of Manchester in 2021, where I specialised in Russian, Chinese and Modern African history, alongside advanced Spanish modules. Before university, I completed the International Baccalaureate, studying a broad range of subjects including History, Spanish, French, English Literature, Physics and Mathematics. I achieved 13 A*s at GCSE. I am also TEFL qualified and hold a C1 qualification in Spanish. Having lived in both Spain and France, I am fluent in Spanish and French and have worked professionally in both languages. This combination of academic experience, language qualifications and practical experience allows me to support students across a wide range of subjects and exam requirements.

All you need to know about IGCSE tuition

What is the IGCSE?

The IGCSE (which stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is taken by students aged 14-16 (Year 10 and 11) to prepare them for further pre-university level study, such as A-levels.

It offers the same level of education as a traditional GCSE but does not have a UK-centric curriculum. For example, Shakespeare is a compulsory part of GCSE English Literature but not the IGCSE.

Children in state schools usually take GCSEs whilst those in private and international schools are more likely to take IGCSEs. Universities do not distinguish between the two when it comes to entry requirements. The exams are assessed externally.

What is the focus of the IGCSE?

The IGCSE focuses on developing understanding, skill, and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Subject content

  • The application of knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations

  • Intellectual enquiry

  • Flexibility and responsiveness to change

  • Working and communicating in English

  • Influencing outcomes

  • Cultural awareness

What subjects are studied?

IGCSEs are available in a broad range of subjects but curriculums vary considerably depending on the school.

Students typically take seven to nine subjects, which must include the core subjects of English, mathematics and science (biology, chemistry, physics).

Optional subjects include humanities (history, geography), modern languages, the creative arts (art, music), STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and sports.

Preparing for the IGCSEs

Historically, the GCSE had a greater amount of coursework in the syllabus compared to the IGCSE. This has changed in recent years and both qualifications are based mainly on the end-of-course exams.

The exams test theoretical knowledge, practical skills, problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills – which are essential for further education as well as future careers.

Revision is key to retaining information and reinforcing understanding and should be done regularly rather than cramming all the content at the last minute.

Practicing past papers and taking mock exams will allow you to become familiar with the exam structure, improve your time management skills and discover any areas of weakness.

How can a tutor help with preparing for the IGCSEs?

A tutor can help at any stage of the process, whether it is over the two years of study or in the run-up to the exams.

GoStudent IGCSE tutors have experience in the specific subjects covered in the curriculum as well as a proven track record of success. They offer personalised lessons that can target problematic areas and can help create realistic and achievable study schedules that balance your time across the different subjects.

ICGSE tutors can also teach you effective study techniques. These will help you not only with the exams but in your future academic career.

If you are struggling with either the coursework or exam preparation, don’t delay seeking help. Feeling prepared and confident for your exams allows you to have a clear and focused mind - and achieve to your full potential.

Answering student's questions about iGCSE level online lessons

Is private iGCSE tuition affordable?

Your child can get iGCSE tuition for as low as £21.99 per session. The price of each private tuition session depends on how regularly and for how long your child takes tuition with us. Book a free trial session with us and you can find out how affordable private tuition with GoStudent can be for you.

How many other levels does GoStudent offer other than iGCSE tuition?

As well as private iGCSE tuition, GoStudent can help your child with 11 other levels. Pick from many subjects including Spanish, Economics, French. And with GoStudent your child isn't tied into one level. If they are taking iGCSE tuition but then need support with a different level, we can help them get that support with a tutor specialised in that level.

How can your child benefit from iGCSE tuition?

The main reason that parents often start to look for a iGCSE tutor is to improve their child’s academic performance. It’s needless to say that tutoring will prepare your child for important exams and tests and address specific problem areas that they might have in a particular subject. Your child’s grades and understanding of the subject will improve when working with a tutor but there are also other benefits you might consider when deciding whether to opt for private iGCSE tutoring. Tutoring encourages self-directed learning. This means that your child will learn to take the initiative in their schoolwork, with the result that they will feel less overwhelmed or frustrated with school and more in control of their own learning. They will also learn study skills that will help them in life when it comes to university and beyond. Whether it’s learning to overcome obstacles in their studies, losing the fear of asking questions or even working on their social skills.
