I am an effective tutor. I’ve worked with SEN students including students with; dyscalculia, ADHD, dyslexia and autism. Whether you are looking to increase your grade by a little, or a lot I am here to get you to that full potential. I specialise in teaching GCSE maths and have led many students to get top grades. I work based on the students’ needs and I am very much able to adapt to their preferred learning style. I use exam questions from your exam board and continue to practice topics with you until you are fluent As I am a visual learner myself, I work with students particularly through diagrams, visual aids and in depth examples, drawn on interactive whiteboards as well as analogies to explain concepts required for their curriculum and more importantly, the final exam. Practice exam and past paper questions are key to unlocking the higher grades, and so I always integrate questions throughout the teaching of content during lesson to ensure the student understands and digests what they have learnt properly through application, you will never be short of exam practice in one of my lessons, as that is how the real exam will be like. There is always an open door policy to ask whatever questions you need to, whether that is in or out of lesson time, no question is too big or small. I achieved 5 grades 9’s and 5 grade 8’s at GCSE, this includes: - A 9 in Maths and Chemistry - An 8 in Biology and Physics. I am a BSc Biochemistry graduate from the University of Birmingham and an incoming first-year medical student at the University of Dundee. I offer tutoring specifically in GCSE Biology and GCSE Chemistry, using my strong academic background in both subjects to help students understand difficult concepts and improve their confidence. I aim to make complex scientific topics clear and manageable, while also focusing on exam technique, past-paper questions, and effective revision strategies. My lessons are patient, supportive, and tailored to each student’s individual needs, whether they are looking to strengthen their understanding, improve their grades, or prepare confidently for their exams. I have graduated from the University of Birmingham with a 2:1 BSc in Biochemistry and am now beginning my first year of Medicine at the University of Dundee. During my degree, I studied areas including molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, metabolism and organic chemistry. I also developed practical laboratory skills, scientific writing and experience analysing and presenting experimental data. My interest in tutoring began at secondary school, where I worked as a Science Tutor supporting GCSE students in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I focused on identifying why students might not be achieving the grades they were aiming for, whether this was due to difficulty understanding certain concepts, gaps in their knowledge or challenges with exam technique. I could then tailor my support to address the specific issue. This experience taught me the importance of recognising different learning styles. For visual learners, I used diagrams and visual representations to make scientific processes easier to understand. For students who benefited more from verbal learning, I used simple language and broke complex concepts down step by step. I also created clear and digestible revision resources to make large topics feel more manageable and help students revise independently. At university, I volunteered in drop-in sessions supporting first-year Biochemistry students, particularly with writing laboratory reports and using RStudio for data presentation and analysis. Having already completed first year myself, I was able to draw on my own experiences and mistakes to help students avoid similar difficulties and develop more effective approaches to their work. Alongside my final year of Biochemistry, I completed the demanding medical school application process. This involved preparing my application and personal statement, studying for the UCAT and preparing extensively for Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). My interview preparation also required me to develop my understanding of current medical and NHS topics and practise communicating my ideas clearly under pressure. Balancing this preparation with my final-year degree commitments significantly strengthened my time-management, organisation and independent learning skills and ultimately led to me securing a place to study Medicine at the University of Dundee. I also volunteered as a Reading Partner at secondary school, supporting students with dyslexia with their reading and writing. This experience developed my patience and empathy and reinforced that every student progresses differently and may require a different approach. Together, my academic background, science mentoring and experience progressing into medical school have prepared me to provide personalised GCSE Biology and Chemistry tutoring, helping students strengthen their scientific knowledge, improve their exam technique and become more confident in their abilities.

Hi, I’m Maki Mary, an enthusiastic and patient tutor who enjoys helping students build confidence in Science and Mathematics. I believe students learn best when they understand the ideas behind a topic rather than simply memorising facts or formulas. My goal is to make lessons engaging, supportive, and easy to follow, while encouraging students to ask questions, think critically, and develop strong problem-solving skills. In my free time, I enjoy playing the guitar and singing, which helps me relax and stay creative. I graduated with a degree in Electronics Engineering and am a licensed Electronics Engineer. My academic background provided me with a strong foundation in Mathematics, Science, logical reasoning, and problem-solving. My professional experience in Quality Assurance and Control has further strengthened my analytical, technical, and documentation skills. I also completed my TEFL certification and achieved a C2 Proficient level in the EF SET English test, supporting my ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to learners.
