I am an effective tutor. I’ve worked with SEN students including students with; dyscalculia, ADHD, dyslexia and autism. Whether you are looking to increase your grade by a little, or a lot I am here to get you to that full potential. I specialise in teaching GCSE maths and have led many students to get top grades. I work based on the students’ needs and I am very much able to adapt to their preferred learning style. I use exam questions from your exam board and continue to practice topics with you until you are fluent As I am a visual learner myself, I work with students particularly through diagrams, visual aids and in depth examples, drawn on interactive whiteboards as well as analogies to explain concepts required for their curriculum and more importantly, the final exam. Practice exam and past paper questions are key to unlocking the higher grades, and so I always integrate questions throughout the teaching of content during lesson to ensure the student understands and digests what they have learnt properly through application, you will never be short of exam practice in one of my lessons, as that is how the real exam will be like. There is always an open door policy to ask whatever questions you need to, whether that is in or out of lesson time, no question is too big or small. I look forward to guiding you into achieve the academic potential you and I know you are capable of. I achieved 5 grades 9’s and 5 grade 8’s at GCSE, this includes: - A 9 in Maths and Chemistry - An 8 in Biology and Physics. How tutoring at Key Stage 1 can benefit your child

What is Key Stage 1?

Key Stage 1 (KS1) is the name given to Year 1 and Year 2 at primary schools, when pupils are aged between 5 and 7. It sets out which subjects must be taught as part of the national curriculum, which is followed by state schools.

Your child may be tested on what they have learned at the end of KS1. These assessments are known as SATs (which stands for ‘Standardised Assessment Tests’). They are not pass/fail tests but simply provide an indication of your child’s progress. It is not compulsory for schools to take the SATs in KS1.

What are the main subjects studied at Key Stage 1?

The KS1 curriculum is designed to introduce children to the core subjects they will learn throughout their school career.

The subjects are:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Design and technology
  • History
  • Geography
  • Art and design
  • Music
  • Physical education (PE)
  • Computing

Religious Education (RE) is also taught, but parents can choose for their children to opt out of some or all the lessons. Schools usually also teach Personal, Social and Health Dducation (PSHE), citizenship and modern foreign languages.

How is Key Stage 1 assessed?

Children undertake a phonics screening check at the end of Year 1, which evaluates their reading and pronunciation skills.

Schools who do not take the SATs will use their own assessment systems to track the progress children in their school are making.

If your school takes the SATs, the subjects are:

  • English reading (comprehension)
  • English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Mathematics (basic arithmetic)

The focus of Key Stage 1

KS1 is where a child begins to develop their skills and understanding in the key subjects taught in the curriculum.

Speaking, reading and writing are considered core skills as mastery of the English language is central to developing an understanding in all subjects.

In KS1 maths, children to begin to understand mathematical language, understand the fundamentals and begin to solve problems by applying this knowledge.

In addition, teaching children about healthy habits and different belief systems can help them become well-rounded individuals who understand the world around them.

How to choose a Key Stage 1 tutor

Children are all different and progress at different rates. Some will need extra support in building core skills or improving confidence, and others may need more of a challenge to keep them engaged. Either way, lessons need to be personalised to meet their individual needs.

It’s also important to choose a tutor with experience in the KS1 curriculum and who understands how important it is to make learning fun.

GoStudent’s tutors are highly qualified and offer an interactive and personalised learning experience. Our online sessions can be scheduled for a time that suits you, and you will receive regular updates on your child’s progress.

Tutoring will give your child a strong foundation in the key concepts will set them up to succeed in learning, not only at KS2 but throughout their school career.
